As part of our Literacy Block, the students will take part in daily WORD STUDY WORK. We will be learning a variety of fun and different ways to learn how to spell our weekly words. There will be nightly Word Study Homework. The students will have 4-5 words to work with that encompass our weekly phonics skill. They will be able to choose from a Monthly Menu of choices to complete this homework. I ask that this Menu remain in the back of their HW folder. This homework will be due on Friday of every week.
The students will be responsible for taking a weekly Word Study Assessment. Homework each night and daily classroom activities will help prepare your child for this. The assessments will come home on Fridays for you to see how your child is doing with their Word Study.
In addition to our weekly words, your child will be responsible for knowing and spelling the Upper Moreland Core Words. They will be assessed on these words each semester during the school year. The attached document is the core word list that is expected. Second graders will need to know ALL words on the list.
